Collage Dropout Art Night – Hosted by JD Renaud

April 3, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm

The Handsome Daughter and The Placeholder Show present…

COLLAGE DROPOUT ART NIGHT!
It’s like Paint Night, but way less boring and way more glue.

Visual artist J.D. Renaud hosts a full evening of paper crafting insanity, where he will guide you through the step-by-step process of creating fun, original, one of a kind collage pieces! It’s not you and a dozen other people painting a sunset, it’s learning the basics of decoupage and paper cutting to make YOUR OWN pieces, surround by friends, food, drinks, and good times.

This first class will be a crash course on a staple of Renaud’s art, RANSOM NOTE STYLE INSPIRATIONAL PLAQUES! Toss that ‘Keep Calm, & Carry On’ poster in the trash, because you’re going to learn how to make YOUR OWN uplifting messages through your art work! Come with a phrase in your head, and leave at the end of the night with your own original piece of outsider art.

All materials, including an 8×10 inch canvas, paper, scissors, and paste will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring their own cutting tools and/or posters of their choosing if they wish, but are not required to. ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME!

Tuesday April 3rd, 6-930pm. Cost is $25 for pre-registrations, $30 at the door.

To arrange a pre-registration, e-mail theplaceholdershow@gmail.com, with the subject COLLAGE DROPOUT

—about the artist—
One of the most prolific and righteously twisted voices in the Winnipeg arts scene, J.D Renaud was voted Winnipeg’s Favourite Visual Artist by the readers of the Uniter in 2015, and was the subject of the documentary short ‘Paper Cuts’ filmed for MTS Stories From Home.

His collage artwork, which he calls ‘One Sheets’, have been attracting considerable attention from fans of abstract pop art, and have sold internationally to private collectors and professional art institutions alike. He has curated two shows at the Handsome Daughter, ‘That’s It, back to Winnipeg’, and ‘Suspended Animation’. His first solo gallery show was in August of 2014, and has had gallery showings at the Edge Village, Warehouse Artworks, the Gas Station Arts Centre, and the Northern Contemporary and Super Wonder Galleries in Toronto.
